3D printing smoothing: the M i M process – Mastered incremental multilayers – is an automated surface treatment for smoothing and protecting 3D-printed polymer parts.
Obtained by adding a translucent levelling base varnish, it meets the specific post-processing requirements of the additive manufacturing process. This treatment uses high solid varnishes with low VOC content, adapted for use in the Smoothit.

To be able to apply finishes to 3D-printed parts, it is often essential to produce a good surface finish beforehand, in particular with regard to roughness, sealing and hardness.
MiM corrects undesirable effects associated with the manufacturing process of parts to improve surface finish.
This gives the ideal conditions for producing quality finishes (lacquering, colouring, metallization, etc.).

 

Through this process, your parts are:

  • Smooth > lowers roughness to Ra 1 µm
  • Sealed > reduces porosity
  • Aesthetic > gives a better visual appearance
  • Soft > gives an ultra-soft feel.

The MIM process is compatible with:


• the main additive manufacturing technologies DLP, FFF, MJF, MJP, SLA and SLS,
• the materials most widely used in 3D printing ABS, PA, PA11, PAGF, PC, PLA, PP, PS, TPU, etc.

 

Treatment time is between 5 and 20 minutes depending on the substrate used, the condition of the initial surface and the objectives sought.
MiM has been designed to apply successive coats of levelling varnish to allow you to determine yourself the degree of smoothness you are looking for.
MiM offers the advantage of finalising the additive manufacturing process by bringing smoothing in-house and protecting your parts,completely autonomously, simply and quickly.
